A1 Pits complex near Newark

A1 Pits complex near Newark

I decided to have a day Carp fishing with my mate Stitch down at the 6 lakes at the A1 Pits complex near Newark.

Well, what can I say, neither of us had any runs in our 9 hours on the bank, and from what I gathered from the other anglers there, no one had actually caught anything that day. ( It was very hot !! )

I was a bit restless and so decided to pass the time the time with a bit of photography........

Fishing with two rods at 30 metres out using boilies

A nice view of the lake at A1 Pits
At over 100 Acres the Carp must be lost in here!!
Artistic
Waterlicked for the first time this year....oh well!!

The Blue Lagoon (L&DAA water)

The Blue Lagoon (L&DAA water)

So it was back to the Blue Lagoon in Lincoln once again. The whole lake was covered in surface weed and although the Lincoln and District website kept stating that the weed was going to be cleared, there was no evidence that any work had taken place.

So I decided to fish at Peg 2, one of the only spots where you could pole fish. This spot is the deepest in the lake at around 5.5 to 6 feet. I fished double maggot on the bottom next to a large lily pad.

A 2.5 Ib Bream and a selection of small perch, roach and rudd

2.5 Ib Bream and scraps
After battling a plague of small roach, perch and rudd, I managed to connect with a nice Bream.
I decided to get some more ground bait on the bottom to try to hold any shoal that may be there, but I had no further Bream.

On most lakes and rivers, if you get one Bream you know that theres a chance of hitting more of them. Here at the Blue Lagoon the bream seem to be more solitary, not going round as a shoal.

Well at least I caught, hoping for better luck next time.

Blue Lagoon (L&DAA)

My first fishing outing to The Blue Lagoon in Lincoln....

Fishing on my 11 metre pole at Peg 2 ( one of the most weed free of the pegs ) I managed to take a nice bag of mainly Rudd, Roach and Perch on triple red maggot, fished on a size 18 hook.

An hour into the session I connected with a nice Bream (shown below), that I thought initially was a small tench, until it completely gave up and glided into the landing net like a wet paper bag.

4Ib Bream taken on triple red maggot
A successful afternoon/evening of pole fishing for a total of 8Ib.

Fossedyke Navigation ( Near Saxilby, Lincoln )

Fossedyke Navigation ( Near Saxilby, Lincoln )

I decided to have a go on the Fossedyke canal near Lincoln. Having not fished for over 16 years, I now had the fishing bug once again and I wanted to try all of the local waters, this being one of them on the Lincoln and District handbook.

I fished 3/4 of the way across the canal, just inside the main channel at a depth of around 6.5/7 feet. I fished a waggler float on 4Ib main line down to 2Ib bottom. I alternated between double maggot and small pieces of bread on a size 16 hook.
My swim on the canal
A few weed beds were growing along the shallow channel edge and so I decided to drop the waggler just short of them, fishing against the slightly deeper shelf.
A kingfisher was diving from a dead tree, but I didnt manage to capture his frequent dives!!
Looking to my left towards Lincoln
Mixed bag of Roach, Perch and Skimmer Bream
After a slow start, the bites then came thick and fast and I finished with a nice 8 or 9 Ib bag of Roach, Perch and Skimmer Bream.

A nice introduction to getting back onto the canal.

Langdale Lakes ( Willow lake ) at Langworth

Langdale Lakes ( Willow lake ) at Langworth

This was my first fishing trip of the year. It was also my first fishing trip for about 16 years, due to work commitments.....I just woke up one morning, found all of my fishing tackle in my double garage and thought....hey, why not head fishing again.....and now I have the fishing bug once again.

6Ib Mirror carp taken on a piece of Cheese
So I popped to Langdale lakes at Langworth and fished on Willow lake. Fishing on the pole with 12 elastic, 5Ib line through to a 4Ib hook length and a size 16 hook, I fished a combination of bread and cheese. I took 5 small carp up to 6Ib.

Not a bad introduction to the fishing world after a 16 year break......definitely caught the fishing bug once again!!
